A card game developed in a week.
Earthquake Tornado Lizard Flood is a card game prototype we created in just one week. In August 2012 we decided to join Gioco Inedito, an annual contest held in Lucca during the famous convention about comics and games. The theme was the end of the world, but we weren’t particularly charmed by it. And that’s why we wait months before start working on it, wasting a lot of time.
Our theme interpretation was pretty standard: you are a Maya priest and you have in your hand three Apocalypse recipes. Your personal goal is to be the first to make the Apocalypse happen.
You can control the four natural elements and four related plagues: Earthquake, Tornado, Lizard, Flood. Why the lizard, you will ask? This time we didn’t celebrate Douglas Adams, but Rock-paper-scissors-lizard-Spock.
You play card in the wheel of time, trying to reproduce the exact combination of elements you are given. Each player can put a card on a chosen element activating the card put before it. When a player’s recipe is satisfied on the table, the Apocalypse is done and the player wins (but then the world collapses).
The game is for 2-4 players and the duration is 10-15 minutes.
You can also download a print and play version of Earthquake Tornado Lizard Flood in the B*Sides 2010-2014 pack on Gumroad (pay what you want) along with 17 digital games and extra stuff.
